TIGER Career Profiles
Beth L. Elias
By Beth L. Elias. PhD, MS, Associate Professor, Virginia Commonwealth Univesity School of Nursing

Stephen C. Burrows
By Stephen C. Burrows, DPM, MBA, CPHIMS, FHIMSS, Clinical Assistant Professor, Chair, Health Science & Leadership, Program Director, Healthcare Informatics, Sacred Heart University

At times I think my journey in informatics is unique though I know I'm wrong after meeting many of my colleagues in the field. Oddly, I think my roots in informatics reach back to my childhood and my fascination with the Science Fiction genre.
Linda Hogan
By Linda Hogan, PhD, Director, Faculty Development University of Pittsburgh Medical Center (UPMC)

It was during college spring break and I couldn't afford to travel. I untacked a poster from a bulletin board that was better than any of my Aerosmith artwork and hung it in my room. The poster advertised an upcoming conference in medical informatics.
Özlem H. Ersin
By Özlem H. Ersin, PhD, MBA, MEd, MBS, Associate Dean, Interprofessional Education, James Madison University

As an international student at Macalester College in the early 1990s, I was lucky enough to secure a post at the computer lab help desk. This choice gave me skills that were relatively rare at the time and set me on a career trajectory that has run along information technologies and informatics ever since.
