HIMSS Releases 2017-2018 Public Policy Principles
The 2017-2018 Policy Principles were developed to address current and potential shifts to the health IT public policy environment and form the basis of HIMSS' policy activities including development of Congressional Asks and public responses to regulation and analysis of federal and state legislation.


ONC Sponsors Development of White Paper on PGHD Policy Framework
The paper offers relevant enabling actions that could further enhance PGHD capture, use, and sharing for health care delivery and research in the US.

Health IT Policy and Standards Committees Hear Updates on Model Privacy Notice, Interoperability Standards Advisory, Privacy and Security, and Health IT Playbook
The meeting topics included updates from the ONC Office of Policy, a 2017 Interoperability Standards Advisory (ISA) review and draft recommendations from the ISA Task Force, updates from the Office of the Chief Privacy Officer and Office of Standards and Technology, and consumer task force update and Health IT Playbook feedback.

Release of NIST Cybersecurity Framework v1.1: Public Comment Period Open for Draft Document
The Framework sets forth the core functions which are common across critical infrastructure sectors: identify, detect, protect, respond, and recover from security incidents.

Dr. David Shulkin Nominated to be VA Secretary
Dr. Shulkin currently serves as VA's Undersecretary for Health, a position he's held in the Obama administration since 2015.

Public Comment Sought for Federal Government's Role with the Internet of Things
Public comment is sought as to the government's role in cybersecurity, privacy, intellectual property, and other facets.


Massachusetts State HIE Patients Access Medical Records Electronically
Massachusetts patients are now able to access their medical records electronically.

California Index and Inland Empire Form Largest State HIE
The merger will combine 11.7 million claim records from Cal INDEX founding members Anthem Blue Cross and Blue Shield of California with 5 million clinical patient records.
