House VA Committee Holds IT Hearing on IT, Shulkin Cleared for Senate Confirmation Vote
The hearing was an opportunity for the Committee to review the VA's IT modernization efforts, including VistA modernization, the possible acquisition of a commercial off-the-shelf EHR, DoD-VA interoperability, and upgrades the Veterans Benefits Management system (VBMS).


Congressman Tom Price Confirmed as Secretary of Health and Human Services
HIMSS looks forward to working with Secretary Price to ensure we realize the full value of health IT in ensuring interoperability, improving care, increasing access, and driving better health outcomes to patients.

Administration Provides Further Clarity on Executive Order on Reducing Regulation and Regulatory Costs
The Administration clarified that the Executive Order applies only to significant regulatory actions and that federal spending rules that primarily cause income transfers from taxpayers to program beneficiaries (e.g., rules associated with Pell grants and Medicare spending) are considered "transfer rules" and are not covered by the Executive Order.

CMS Extends Deadline for Medicare EHR Incentive Program
The deadline has changed from February 28, 2017, to March 13, 2017 allowing two additional weeks for attestation.

This model will allow pharmacy management systems to communicate with electronic health records (EHRs), payers, and care management systems, which they have not been able to do before.


STEPS to Value 3-Part Mini-Series- HIT Policy: A Participatory Sport
