Burgess Interoperability Draft Legislation Summary
Congressman Mike Burgess (R-TX) circulated draft legislation last week entitled Ensuring Interoperability of Qualified Health Records.

Congress Continues Work on Permanent SGR Fix
The current SGR patch expires by March 31 and Congress must either come up with a long sought after permanent replacement or authorize another temporary fix.

HIMSS Southern California Chapter Visits Capitol Hill
HIMSS chapter makes follow-up visits to Capitol Hill this week.  December 4th and 5th, 2014 HIMSS Southern California chapter members Ian Slade and Sri Bharadwaj met with California offices to discuss the Flex-IT Act of 2014, which would have allowed a 90-day reporting period for the Meaningful Use Program in 2015.

Postponed - March 18th briefing on DoD and VA Health Systems
Additional spring briefings have been scheduled.

Senate HELP Committee Hearing
The hearing marked the Senate’s start to introduce legislation similar to the House of Representatives’ 21st Century Cures Initiative, intended to ensure patients have timely access to breakthrough drugs and devices. 


Health IT Policy Committee Discusses Meaningful Use, Big Data, Interoperability and Delivery System Reform
On Tuesday March 10 the Health IT Policy Committee, a Federal Advisory Committee to the Office of the National Coordinator for Health IT (ONC), convened for a face to face meeting in Washington, D.C.

CMS Announces Next Generation ACO Model
Building upon experience from the Pioneer ACO Model and the Medicare Shared Savings Program (Shared Savings Program), the Next Generation ACO Model offers a new opportunity in accountable care—one that sets predictable financial targets, enables providers and beneficiaries greater opportunities to coordinate care, and aims to attain the highest quality standards of care.

ONC Releases Data Brief on Hospital Reporting on Meaningful Use Public Health Measures in 2014
ONC conducted this analysis to highlight the electronic information exchange between hospitals and public health agencies to enhance public health’s ability to monitor population health, identify disease outbreaks earlier, and facilitate better case management for individuals with diseases of public health concern.

ONC is Looking for Reviewers for Three Grant Opportunities
The application deadline for all three FOAs is April 6, 2015.  ONC is looking for Objective Reviewers to help the agency in the selection process in late April 2015. 


Montana Legislature Enacts Nursing Compact
Montana passed House Bill 147 on February 17 to become the 25th state to adopt the interstate nurse licensure compact. Under the compact a nurse’s license in one state is recognized by all others in the compact.
