Representatives address HHS on the Meaningful Use Program
Ellmers and Kind’s letter also urged the 365-day annual reporting period be reduced, removal of the pass/fail approach for Meaningful Use, and alignment of CMS’ quality reporting requirements.

Congress Expresses Concern about Growing Cyber Threat
Thursday, March 19, 2015, the House Permanent Select Committee on Intelligence held a hearing titled, The Growing Cyber Threat and its Impact on American Business. 

Senate and House Introduce SGR Replacement Bill
On Thursday, March 19th the Senate and House introduced bipartisan, bicameral legislation to replace the Medicare Sustainable Growth Rate (SGR) formula.  The replacement system would implement a payment system that incentivizes quality, efficiency, and innovation. 

HIMSS Responds to Proposed Legislation to Enhance Nationwide Interoperability
Burgess draft legislation was intended to be part of the House Energy and Commerce Committee 21st Century Cures initiative.  Burgess proposal was intended to enhance nationwide progress toward interoperability, including establishing a “Charter Organization” to replace the Health IT Policy and Standards Committees established after passage of the HITECH Act in 2009

HIMSS Submits Statement to the Senate HELP Committee
The Senate Health Education Labor and Pensions (HELP) Committee health a full committee hearing March 17, 2015, titled - America’s Health IT Transformation: Translating the Promise of Electronic Health Records into Better Care, on Tuesday, March 17 2015. 

Republicans Release Budget Proposals
The proposal balances the budget in less than 10 years without raising taxes, reduces $5.5 trillion in spending, and calls on Congress to pass a balanced budget amendment to the Constitution.

Senate HELP Committee Hearing
On Tuesday, March 17th the Senate Health, Education, Labor and Pensions (HELP) Committee held a full committee hearing on America’s Health IT Transformation: Translating the Promise of Electronic Health Records into Better Care.


President Obama spoke this week at Global Center for Health Innovation in Cleveland.

HIMSS Board Approve Net Neutrality Position Statement
With the recent vote by the Federal Communications Commission (FCC) vote in regards to the issue of Net Neutrality, the HIMSS Board of Directors at their March 17th meeting approved an official HIMSS position on the issue.

2014 Attestation Deadline for Medicare Eligible Professionals Approaching on March 20, 2015
Data can be submitted through the Registration and Attestation System. For more information, see the Educational Resources on the CMS EHR Incentive Programs website.

Top 25 Compendium of Unimplemented Recommendations
The report focuses on the top 25 unimplemented recommendation that, on the basis of OIG's professional opinion, would most positively impact HHS programs in terms of cost savings and/or quality improvements and should, therefore, be prioritized for implementation.

Volunteer for ICD-10 End-to-End Testing in July
This nationwide sample will yield meaningful results, since CMS intends to select volunteers representing a broad cross-section of provider, claim, and submitter types, including claims clearinghouses that submit claims for large numbers of providers.
