Data Brief Highlights Increases in ePrescribing
The ONC has posted a new data brief that looks at the rate of e-prescribing nationally and locally since December 2006. Results from the analysis show that seven in ten physicians use electronic health records to e-prescribe and close to six in ten new and renewal prescriptions were sent electronically, accounting for roughly one billion transactions. Results also show that 96 percent of community pharmacies accept e-prescriptions.

HL7 Payer Summit – September 18-19, Chicago IL
HL7 is a family of technologies that provides a universal common framework for interoperability of healthcare data. Multiple Content Views (MCV): The viewing requirements of a patient differ from the requirements of a healthcare provider. This profile allows one document to serve different needs based upon the requirements expressed by patients. MCV can classify these requirements, identify the rendering behavior associated with each and provide guidance on how to tag CDA content.

Reconciliation of Clinical Content and Care Providers (RECON): The RECON profile enables information contained in Health Information Systems and Exchanges be used to support automation of reconciliation tasks and clinical workflows. This profile explains what information can help reconciliation, and use relevant information to assist healthcare providers automate this complex task.

A Data Access Framework using IHE Profiles (DAF): The DAF White Paper, developed in collaboration with ONC, describes how to use existing IHE profiles to access data from Healthcare IT Systems.

Interoperability Interchange*
Interoperability Expert: More Coordination Needed From Feds
In order for the healthcare industry to move toward preventive care and population health management, clinical information needs to flow freely across networks and between hospitals and physicians. For this reason, healthcare organizations need interoperability amongst their technology. However, the industry remains well behind others when it comes to seamlessly and securely communicating and exchanging data.

New CMS Interactive Tool Released
Back in May, Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services (CMS) released the notice of proposed rulemaking (NPRM) that—if finalized—would grant flexibility to providers that are not able to fully implement 2014 Edition certified EHR technology in time to attest to 2014 requirements for the EHR Incentive Programs. To help inform providers about the options presented in the NPRM, CMS created an interactive tool. Check it out and see where you may fit!
