ONC seeks feedback on 2017 Interoperability Standards Advisory draft
ONC announced this week that it is accepting public comments on the draft until Monday, October 24, at 5 p.m…. Regenstrief taps FHIR to make electronic health records more complete and accessible
In pilot testing a new way to compile healthcare information electronically, researchers at the Regenstrief Center for Biomedical Informatics are using HL7's FHIR. Titus Schleyer, a Regenstrief Institute investigator, and Clem McDonald, professor of biomedical informatics at Indiana University School of Medicine, are leading the project. Read more.

PULSE Grant Funding Opportunity Now Available
The California Emergency Medical Services (EMS) Authority is seeking proposals for contractors to participate in the Patient Unified Lookup System for Emergencies (PULSE) Project. The PULSE project will provide interconnectivity and exchange tools to enable health information exchange during disaster situations. Questions on the Request for Offers (RFO) are due September 2 and RFO responses are due September 22.
CommonWell Health Alliance to open access to patient data
Eight EHR and patient portal developers in the CommonWell Health Alliance will enable patients at their provider clients to access their health data, allowing them to self-enroll in the network, link their health records at different care providers and view their data across the network.
Health information exchange associated with improved emergency department care through faster accessing of patient information from outside organizations
A new article from the Journal of the American Medical Informatics Association assesses the benefits of health information exchange on emergency department care. The study concludes the “relationship between HIE and improved care processes and reduced utilization in the ED is mediated by faster accessing of information from outside organizations.”
