What's New

Save the Date for the HIMSS Media’s ICD-10 Leadership Forum
Save the date for the ICD-10 Leadership Forum, presented by HIMSS Media, June 17-18, at the Gaylord National Resort & Convention Center in the Washington DC area. This forum was designed to help its primary audience—Chief Information Officers—not only meet the October 2014 ICD-10 deadline but also reap the business and clinical benefits that ICD-10 promises. The ICD-10 Leadership Forum will provide the information, education and networking opportunities that CIOs and other healthcare leaders need to get ICD-10 firmly in place by the deadline. The Forum will be interactive and present high-level strategies, management insights, processes and procedures, best practices and case studies that help our C-suite attendees lead the ICD-10 implementation charge at their facilities. Content will focus on strategic planning; preventing problems before they occur; risk mitigation; setting goals and expectations and generating staff buy-in; testing for ICD-10; and assessing vendor readiness. The Forum also will show how mastering ICD-10 will help healthcare facilities bill more successfully, employ effective BI&CI tools and techniques, and, overall, improve organizations business and clinical performance. Please click the link above for more information about this event.

Register Next Week for June’s Big Data and Healthcare Analytics Forum June 4-5
Registration opens on March 20 for the Big Data and Healthcare Analytics Forum, presented by HIMSS Media and Healthcare IT News, June 4-5, at the Gaylord National Resort & Convention Center in the Washington DC area. This two-day event will help providers get a better handle on using analytics to improve performance across the board. This event will present peer-to-peer learning, case studies, best practices and deliver practical, actionable content that attendees can take home and put to use. Our speakers, many of them providers, will present a wealth of how-to and how-we-did it content that will benefit attendees with deep analytics experience and those with little or no experience. This conference is intended specifically for senior IT and financial management executives at hospitals, large group practices, ambulatory care facilities, home health organizations, payers and other healthcare facilities in the United States. The content will be relevant for other c-suite healthcare executives concerned with transforming their organizations to accommodate the revolutionary changes in reimbursement and clinical care sweeping the U.S. healthcare industry. HIMSS Announces New Clinton Global Initiative Commitment to Action
Building on its mission to improve the delivery of healthcare with the best use of information technology, HIMSS announced its new Commitment to Action, made as part of its membership with the Clinton Global Initiative (CGI). HIMSS joined the Clinton Global Initiative in September 2012 to advance its work on its Healthcare Transformation Project. The Healthcare Transformation Project gives senior healthcare provider executives the opportunity to take actionable, measurable steps in their organizations that will make a real difference in the lives of the people they serve. During the Healthcare Transformation Project’s meeting at HIMSS13, senior healthcare executives were able to make their own Commitment to Action for change. HIMSS also announced its participation with CGI on March 6, the same day former President Clinton spoke to conference attendees during HIMSS13 in New Orleans. Sponsored White Paper: Creating and Testing Your IT Recovery Plan
Testing at least once per month is important to maintain engineering best practices, to comply with stringent standards for data protection and recovery, and to gain confidence and peace of mind. In the midst of disaster is not the time to determine the flaws in your back up and recovery system. Backup alone is useless without the ability to efficiently recover, and technologists know all too well that the only path from "ought to work" to "known to work" is through testing. Read this white paper to learn more about protecting your data through a proper backup system.

Sponsored White Paper: Taming Complexity—A New Solution for In-House Healthcare EDI
If hospitals and providers are the body of the healthcare industry, healthcare electronic data interchange is the heartbeat. This white paper compares the different solutions and costs for achieving HIPAA-compliant EDI, explains the specific technical challenges in the way of successful implementations, and explores new avenues for bridging the gap to an in-house implementation.

This means maintaining total HIPAA compliance within their organization, including healthcare IT infrastructure. This white paper elucidates HIPAA compliant IT infrastructure, from physical and environmental controls, to appropriate guidelines between a Covered Entity and data center provider when outsourcing. It also helps clarify key points including service provider qualifications, and why Business Associate Agreements are integral for establishing accountability with partners.
