HIMSS Introduces Health IT Value Suite to Measure Impact of HIT Investments
HIMSS has recently introduced the Health IT Value Suite—a comprehensive knowledge repository that classifies, quantifies and articulates the clinical, financial and business impact of health IT investments. The Health IT Value Suite creates a taxonomy and framework to quantify and discuss the impact of IT in health settings. Further, it offers relevant and credible examples that help stakeholders—from providers to policymakers to payers to influencers—evaluate the success of their information technology investments with an emphasis on examining and improving performance across numerous clinical, business and financial factors. Using the Health IT Value Suite, stakeholders and organizations can continue to advance their objectives with confidence, and realize maximum value by providing high-quality, safe, and cost–effective care. Click the link above to learn more about the Value Suite. Use the hashtag #HITWorks to follow the conversations on Twitter.

This service is provided at no expense to universities, students under university license, U.S. governments (local, state and federal), and governments of other countries that will be using the data for research purposes. NEW! Review Results of HIMSS Workforce Survey
The HIMSS 2013 Workforce Survey, sponsored by Medix IT, examines hiring trends and barriers for healthcare provider organizations and IT vendors. More than 85 percent of survey respondents indicated that their organization hired at least one employee in 2012. In the coming year, 79 percent of organizations also plan to hire additional staff. Approximately one-third of healthcare provider organizations indicated that they had to place an IT initiative on hold due to staffing shortages, and many expressed that these lower priority issues created risks to patient care and revenue generation. The lack of a local qualified talent pool was the biggest reported challenge to fully staffing for both employer groups. A full breakdown of each finding is available in the report appendix. Download the full report at the link above.

NEW! Corporate Member White Paper: Leveraging Advanced Analytics to Successfully Reduce Hospital Readmissions
"Que sera, sera. Whatever will be, will be. The future's not ours to see." These lyrics from the famous song recorded by Doris Day in the late 1950s have resonated with listeners for decades. Finally, though, many are starting to believe that it now is possible to predict the future. The notion is one that has piqued the interest of many. Even hospital leaders. NEW! Corporate Member White Paper: The HIPAA Final Omnibus Rule: An Analysis of the Changed Impacting Healthcare Covered Entities and Business Associates
Data breaches risk the medical and financial well-being of breach victims and the credibility and future business of healthcare providers. At the same time, federal and state governments are issuing even more regulations in response to the growing public concern and eroding public trust over the PHI breach epidemic. The most sweeping of these
regulations is the long-awaited HIPAA Final Omnibus Rule. Read this white paper from ID Experts at the link above.

NEW! Corporate Member White Paper: Automating Chemotherapy Ordering and Improved Patient Safety and Clinical Outcomes
The VHA Office of Health Information Patient Safety Workgroup recently conducted a study examining cancer care and discovered that current processes for managing the administration of chemotherapy posed a significant patient safety risk. Independently, the electronic health records system in use at all VA facilities, CPRS/VistA, is insufficient for meeting the unique decision support and ordering needs specific to the complexities of cancer care. As a result, most facilities rely on a hybrid of electronic and manual processes to facilitate the ordering, documentation and tracking associated with chemotherapy. This lack of consistency and standardization increases the potential for error and adverse events. To address this issue and promote a culture of patient safety, the VA is exploring how the use of automated systems for chemotherapy decision support, ordering and treatment management can create a safer environment for delivering care.
