Jennings Aske of Partners Healthcare to Deliver Keynote at Privacy & Security Forum
As Jennings Aske sees it, the time is now for the healthcare industry to get serious about the investments it needs to make to secure clinical information. In his keynote address, "A Healthcare Security and Privacy Call to Arms", the Chief Information and Security Officer of Partners Healthcare will detail how, over the course of four years, he was able to get management and clinical leadership support for building the Partners HealthCare security infrastructure, as well as his vision of the convergence of privacy and security in the healthcare setting, among other topics. Aske will deliver his keynote address on Sept. 24. FDA Commissioner to Deliver mHealth Summit Keynote
FDA Commissioner Margaret Hamburg will deliver a keynote address on Day 3 of the mHealth Summit in December. The FDA’s Mobile Medical Applications Final Guidance is precedent setting for the industry, as it cuts across multiple Federal agencies. The scope of FDA’s responsibilities in fostering patient safety is critical to the success of balancing the much needed innovation that health IT will continue to foster as it spurs forward progress in quality outcomes for patients and providers in the health care space. Attend and benefit greatly from hearing the commissioner’s vision on this guidance. NEW! Take a Survey on Mobile Apps in Healthcare
The University of Delaware is collaborating with HIMSS Analytics and mHIMSS to assess provider attitudes toward apps in healthcare settings. We are looking for healthcare providers to complete the survey tool. Mobile devices hold great promise for reshaping the time and place where an individual receives care. The survey evaluates a number of key topics emerging in the healthcare space: Opinions on integration apps into the Meaningful Use program, characteristics important to users downloading an app, assessing desirable pricing structures, etc. Providers, physicians, nurses, and IT staff are invited to take the survey. The survey should take no more than 15 minutes to complete and all responses will remain confidential. The results may be published in a scholarly journal or industry research publication. HIMSS mobilizes its members to engage in various advocacy activities. State chapters are encouraged to designate one or more of their members to act as a "lead" for advocacy events, campaigns and outreach initiatives. Generally given the title "Chapter Advocate", these leaders are also often identified as Advocacy Chairs, Advocacy Co-Chairs or Advocacy Liaison. Chapter Advocates across the United States connect with one another through the Chapter Advocacy Roundtable (CAR). Once a year, Chapter Advocates have an opportunity to visit Washington, D.C. to attend an off-site training seminar and participate in HIMSS Public Policy Summit. This year’s annual Chapter Advocacy Roundtable training will take place on Sept. 18, at the Hyatt Regency on Capitol Hill in Washington, D.C. Continuity of Care Task Force
It's of the upmost importance that clinicians use electronic health records and HIT to coordinate care in the ambulatory healthcare setting. The Continuity of Care Task Force will create resources and tools that promote and utilize IT to coordinate care amongst healthcare providers to provide better patient outcomes. This group will examine the role of HIT in the primary care setting as it relates to coordinating care with acute setting, Accountable Care Organizations and within Patient-Centered Medical Homes. The Value of HIT and Meaningful Use Task Force
Help practices look beyond EHR implementation to the realization of the potential benefits of health IT. This work group will create and collect a library of success stories that show the full value that small medical practices and eligible providers can realize by using health information technologies. Ambulatory Advocacy & Public Comment Work Group
