RESOURCE: HIMSS Usability Maturity Model
The HIMSS Health IT User Experience Committee recently re-launched the HIMSS Usability Maturity Model (UMM). The UMM measures how well your organization incorporates usability and other user-centered design principles into its development and strategic planning processes. The five-phase model provides a common vocabulary for the healthcare industry to quantify UCD efforts.

HIMSS is establishing an Advisory Committee to guide the ConCert by HIMSSTM program. Applicants should be well-respected thought leaders from the health IT community with an understanding of the importance of standards-based interoperability. The call for participation is open until May 10.

 I have been involved with HIMSS since my first annual conference in 1998.  I was overwhelmed by the sheer scope of the conference, but had a couple of people really who supported me, and helped navigate the conference. I first attended the nursing informatics (NI) symposium that year, and there were only 60-70 attendees.  I didn’t realize how new NI was, and especially how new NI was within HIMSS.  After that event I was hooked.
