HIMSS Submits Comments on CMS Meaningful Use Stage 3; 2015 Edition Health IT Certification Criteria
On Thursday, May 28, HIMSS submitted comments to the Department of Health and Human Services on the Meaningful Use Stage 3 proposed rule and the 2015 Edition Health IT Certification Criteria.  The two letters, sent to Acting CMS Administrator, Andrew Slavitt, and National Coordinator for Health IT, Dr. Karen DeSalvo, respectively, strongly urge CMS and ONC to decrease the prescriptive nature of the EHR Incentive program, increase focus on the substantial capabilities established earlier in the program, and reduce complexity in the 2015 Certification Criteria.

The HIMSS Journal of Healthcare Information Management is seeking abstracts for its Fall 2015 issue on continuity of care. Continuity of care is the sharing, coordination, and integration of medical information among different providers to support patient care across multiple points in time and multiple care settings. This process is a vital component of patient care quality. Abstracts for this theme and other topic areas within health IT should be no longer than 250 words long and include a working title, and contact information for all potential authors. 2015 mHealth Summit Opens Call for Presentations
The 2015 mHealth Summit opened its call for presentations. This year’s theme—“Anytime, Anywhere: Engaging Providers and Patients”—will spotlight mobile, patient-centered healthcare delivery and consumer wearables, apps and personal health devices. The deadline for submissions is June 8. The Summit will be hosted in Washington, DC, from Nov. 8-11.

HIMSS16 Call for Proposals
The search is on for education presenters at HIMSS16. Submissions should demonstrate a case study approach on the adoption and optimal use of health IT and management systems. The call will be open thru June 15. Contact Deb Clough, Manager of Annual Conference Education.

The HIMSS Nursing Informatics Community is helping assist with student research to examine nurses’ use of power to standardize nursing terminology in EHRs. Your input is valuable to gain a better understanding of nurses’ influence in standardizing nursing terminology to improve the ability to retrieve patient data and measure outcomes of care.
