Your Opinion Matters – HIMSS North America Election Opens Tomorrow – October 15
Cast your vote during the election for HIMSS North America where, as a HIMSS member, you can vote on the proposed bylaws changes and for members of the Nominating Committee. Be on the lookout for an email invitation with the link to the ballot. The election opens tomorrow, Oct. 15, and will be open through Sunday, Nov. 15.

Peyton Manning named closing speaker at HIMSS16 in Las Vegas
Denver Broncos quarterback Peyton Manning, the NFL’s only five-time Most Valuable Player and a 14-time Pro Bowl selection, will be the closing keynote speaker at HIMSS16. He takes to the podium at 1 p.m. PDT, on Friday, March 4. The HIMSS Conference & Exhibition ranked as the largest medical conference in North America during the first half of 2015 (Trade Show Executive, September 2015).

Financial stability and quality performance at the Mayo Clinic
Mark Norby, chair of enterprise revenue cycle at the Mayo Clinic, argues that the mid-revenue cycle, a term rapidly gaining importance in healthcare finance, is the epicenter of healthcare’s revenue cycle. He will talk at the Revenue Cycle Solutions Summit, Dec. 7-8 in Atlanta, Georgia. The mid-revenue cycle is a driver for quality performance and addressing financial stability and improvements. Interactive Step-by-Step Guide Assists Transitions to ICD-10
The HIMSS ICD-10 Task Force has developed ICD-10 Step-by-Step, an interactive guide to assist health care providers who have not yet completed the transition to the ICD-10 code set for submitting claims to the Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services (CMS) and other payers. Incorporated into the HIMSS ICD-10 Playbook, the step-by-step guide assists providers that don't have ICD-10 in place, or who have ICD-10 in place but are still having difficulty receiving reimbursements. Using big data and machine learning to reduce readmissions
Pamela Peele, a speaker at at the Big Data and Healthcare Analytics Forum in Boston, Nov. 5-6, is the chief analytics officer at UPMC, an integrated provider/payer system with over 2.7 million covered in its insurance products, 21 hospitals and over 3,500 physicians. The organization’s exploration of readmission using big data modeling techniques and developed a conditional readmission model to produces a readmission risk prediction score produced each month on every member. That score is available to the hospitals at the point of admission. Additional modeling uncovered optimal post-discharge clinical follow times. The results? Falling readmission rates.
