Global Health Informatics Competencies: Recommendations for Interprofessional Care Delivery
This will be the first ever TIGER led Views from the Top session. Health informatics (HI) recommendations on competencies and education underpin the design of curricula and courses, but they cannot inform educators on how the content can be customized for local needs and requirements. The International Competency Synthesis Project (ICSP) and the EU*US eHealth Work Project, funded by the European Commission, were executed to empirically describe and validate the TIGER (Technology Informatics Guiding Education Reform) Initiative framework of HI competencies for a broad range of health professionals and their inter-professional collaboration. The framework is the first of its kind to reconcile the need for both a global overview and for local hands-on experience in teaching and learning health informatics. Presented by TIGER International Task Force members, Dr. Ursula Hübner, Professor, University of Applied Sciences Osnabruck, Germany & Dr. Beth Elias, Faculty, University of Scranton, PA, USA.
Date: Wednesday, February 13th
Time: 4:00 – 5:00pmET
Session #: 179
Location: Room 304 A-D

EU/US Collaborations to Ensure a Capable eHealth Workforce
Patients, populations, workflow processes and communications are becoming more dependent on information technology, the data gathered and the information and knowledge extracted. Healthcare improvements and clinical care outcomes require the mining of the vast stores of data being gathered through these technologies. Information and communication technologies can be the catalyst for new and far-reaching forms of patient and consumer interactions. However, to harness this power, healthcare needs a globally informed and engaged workforce. Currently, evidence exists to support the idea that the healthcare workforce does not possess the competence to maximize these tools. A multipronged, international and interprofessional effort is needed to bridge this gap from the education pipeline to the bedside. This crucial conversation will begin to address options for building that bridge. Presented by Marisa Wilson, TIGER Scholars Workgroup member, Associate Professor, University of Alabama at Birmingham & Paula Procter, TIGER International Task Force co-chair, Professor, Sheffield Hallam University, England.
Date: Thursday, February 14th
Time: 4:00 – 5:00pmET
Session #: 292
Location: Room W303A
