Advancing Informatics Competencies Amongst Canadian Nurses
Similar to most developed countries, Canada’s health sector has been focused on the adoption and use of electronic health records (EHRs) in all settings. Although nursing students and graduates are being exposed to the use of information and communication technologies (ICT) in practice settings, nursing schools have only recently begun to integrate informatics/eHealth content into undergraduate nursing curricula. Additionally, a limited number of nurse educators have the requisite knowledge, skills and confidence to address students’ learning needs associated with informatics. In order to address these issues, several initiatives have been funded by the Canada Health Infoway and delivered in partnership with the Canadian Association of Schools of Nursing (CASN). Join us to dive deeper into these initiatives and hear about the impact they have had so far in Canada’s health sector. Presented by Lynn M. Nagle, RN, PhD, FAAN, Adjunct Professor, Lawrence S. Bloomberg Faculty of Nursing, University of Toronto.
