Meet an Informaticist

By Karl Poterack, MD

How the heck did I wind up in Clinical Informatics? Some days it feels like I just blinked, and suddenly, here I am spending 50% of my professional effort in a specialty that was unheard of when I was a resident. In reality, I’ve had a number of wonderful opportunities over many years that have prepared me for this challenge.

State of the Industry

This annual study offers insight into the information and technology concerns of U.S. health leaders, especially those involved in the hospital marketplace.

The HIMSS18 Conference & Exhibition brought nearly 44,000 members of the health IT community to Las Vegas. Healthcare now lives in an interconnected environment and is moving away from a volume-based model to value-based care, and it’s time for post-acute providers to catch up. Read full blog.

In fact, immunizations have led to better health outcomes, higher clinician productivity, and reduced medical costs. Acknowledging the benefits of tracking immunization data through health information technology (IT) systems, the HIMSS Immunization Integration Program (IIP), a voluntary testing program, recognizes the first set of electronic health record products that have fulfilled the testing requirements and program guidelines for immunization-related capabilities.
