The 1.3 trillion dollar deal includes additional funds for a number of health I&T priorities including precision medicine, the VA’s EHR implementation and broadband deployment to support telehealth.

 
 
 

This week, the House Energy & Commerce Committee was laser-focused on the opioid crisis, holding two hearings over multiple days.

 
Federal Affairs
 
 

HIMSS looks forward to continuing to dialogue with the VA on how to facilitate the broader exchange of health information within the VA and across the community, as well as how our members can contribute to modernizing the healthcare our nation’s veterans receive.

 
 
 

HIMSS along with providers, such as the University of Pittsburgh Medical Center, Mayo Clinic, Cleveland Clinic, and Geisinger Health System have signed the pledge thus far. 

 
 
 

HIMSS published an Interoperability Call to Action, guiding principles to inform health policy and spur our nation’s health sector to action.


 
State Affairs
 
 

HIMSS supports the requirements that physicians utilize PDMPs as well as the idea of allowing states to share information across their borders.

 
 
 

HIMSS engages with state and local government officials and HIMSS Chapter Advocates and supports evidence-based telehealth programs.

Sepsis remains the leading cause of death in hospitals, despite the fact that sepsis starts outside the hospital about 80 percent of the time.

 
 
 

How the heck did I wind up in Clinical Informatics? Some days it feels like I just blinked, and suddenly, here I am spending 50% of my professional effort in a specialty that was unheard of when I was a resident.
