Congressional
 
 
The bill directs CMS to issue a report on best practices and opportunities to reduce barriers to telehealth services to treat children, and requires the GAO to evaluate and recommend strategies to increase children’s access to services for SUD through telehealth.
 
 
 
The bill provides increased Congressional oversight over the Department of Veterans Affairs’ Electronic Health Record Modernization (EHRM) program by requiring the VA to provide Congress with quarterly updates on the program
 
Federal Affairs
 
 
VA is hoping that health information will be much easier to share, and health care will be much easier to coordinate and deliver, as well as faster and safer.
 
 
 
The significance of this challenge to the health IT community is that the reporting on the safe use of EHRs continues to be a challenge to many healthcare providers.
 
 
 

The GDPR expands the privacy rights of EU individuals and places new obligations on all organizations that market, track, or handle EU personal data.

 
State Affairs
 
 

HIMSS State Government and Federal Affairs team is hosting the first of a series of three webinars on “Leveraging Health Information and Technology to mitigate the Opioid Crisis: Policy Landscape and Steps Forward” on Monday, June 4th from 1:00 – 2:00pm EDT.

 
 
 
This year, the chapters’ advocacy asks focused on telehealth, the opioid crisis, veteran suicide, and workforce development.

The Healthcare Information and Management Systems Society released an educational resource to keep hospital executives up-to-date on national health information exchange developments and interoperability initiatives.

 
 
 

Delivering care to the second most populated county in the U.S., Cook County Health & Hospitals System (CCHHS) of Chicago serves a large and diverse patient population. Many of these patients suffer from chronic diseases such as lupus, HIV, and cancer – all of which require consistent laboratory monitoring.

 
 
 
Health Data Management (HDM) magazine announced its  2018 Most Powerful Women in Healthcare IT, 50 female executive leaders including Carla Smith, executive vice president of HIMSS, founder and champion of the HIMSS Women in Health IT program. The impressive list also includes 30 women who are members of HIMSS. Smith also received this honor last year from HDM and appeared as one of the 2017 Most Powerful Women in HIT.
