Modern health ca re is unthinkable without modern health information technology. Health care professionals need a solid basis on topics rel ated to health IT to be able to efficiently select\, implement and use mod ern health IT systems. Until recently\, health IT topics were not integrat ed into basic curricula in medicine\, nursing or related programs in Austr ia\, often leaving both physicians and nurses lacking in basic competencie s in health IT. This motivated the University for Health Sciences\, Medica tion Informatics and Technology (UMIT) in Austria to establish postgraduat e courses and programs on health information management for health care pr ofessionals. Previously\, 3-day intensive courses for nursing practitioner s were held once a year\, and covered topics such as project management\, process management\, health IT management\, and eHealth and classification systems. Based on the experiences from these intensive courses\, it becam e clear that longer academic programs are necessary to enable in-depth lea rning and retain knowledge. Join us to discover how UMIT created advanced and accessible courses to meet the growing need of professionals comfortab le with health IT. Presented by Elske Ammenwerth\, DrSC\ , FACMI\, Head\, Institute of Health Informatics at the Univers ity of Health Sciences\, Medical Informatics and Technology\, Hall in Tiro l\, Austria.
