On Thursday August 2, 2018 the Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services (CMS) posted the final rule on the 2019 Medicare Hospital Inpatient Prospective Payment System (IPPS) and Long-Term Acute Care Hospital (LTCH) Prospective Payment System. The final rule modifies the Medicare and Medicaid Electronic Health Record (EHR) Incentive Programs, and other proposed changes to interoperability initiatives at CMS. Learn more.

To encourage awareness about the public health epidemic, HIMSS is hosting a series of webinars on leveraging health information and technology to mitigate the opioid crisis at the federal and state levels. Presenters will share model practices at the federal and state levels on state HIE collaborations as well as how to advance Prescription Drug Monitoring Programs (PDMPs), all in efforts to address the opioid crisis. The HIMSS Interoperability Showcase will be traveling to the PHI Conference in Atlanta, Georgia on August 20-23, 2018. Live demonstrations will highlight how electronic standards‐based health information exchange (HIE) brings critical knowledge to the right people at the right time. This collaboration with NACCHO and the CDC will demonstrate how seamless health information exchange in public health can contribute to improve outcomes, engage consumers, and support regulations.
