Finnish Ministry of Social Affairs and Health
Kirsi Varhila is the Permanent Secretary of the Ministry of Social Affairs and Health of Finland. Before taking up her position in October 2019, Varhila served as the Director-General of the Department for Steering of Healthcare and Social Welfare from September 2017 and as the Director of the Department of Social and Health Services from 2013 to 2017. Before her time at the Ministry, Varhila was the Director of the Regional State Administrative Agency of Southwestern Finland (previously Provincial Government) and the Director of the Finnish MS Society (previously MS Society). Kirsi Varhila holds a Master’s degree in political science. She chairs the Representatives of the Finnish Centre for Pensions as well as several advisory boards and working groups. She is also a member of the advisory board of the National Audit Office of Finland (NAOF).
