Connected Health Professor
University of Oulu

Minna Pikkarainen is a joint Connected Health Professor of VTT Technical Research Centre of Finland (VTT) and University of Oulu / Faculty of Medicine and Oulu Business School, Martti Ahtisaari Institute. She is working as a program leader and as a collaborator between different units and departments in the University of Oulu, VTT and other OuluHealth (http://www.ouluhealth.fi/) ecosystem players from both the public and private sectors. In the current Stroke-Data project (as an example), Pikkarainen is working as the Principal Investigator (PI) and scientific manager leading teams from different research organizations as a purpose to research stroke diagnostics and prevention in the field of Neuroscience. The work that aims to co-create evidence based future solutions for stroke diagnostics and prevention is done together with the ecosystem of health technology companies, hospitals and researchers from Finland, Singapore and Australia. In her recent projects, the research has been related to the data-driven digital health interventions/innovations, focusing e.g. on lifestyle prevention, surgery care and musculoskeletal disorders. The research publications are related to the needs and problems of patients and clinical experts, web/mobile-based health interventions, tele rehabilitation, emerging technologies (e.g. Artificial Intelligence, Blockchain),  healthcare transformation, business models and ecosystems. Her work has been conducted between Finland, Singapore, EU, US and Australia. Pikkarainen has published more than 100 peer-reviewed international research articles. As the Professor of Connected Health, she has done interdisciplinary research in medical/nursing science, innovation management/service science, and computer science/information systems.
