Pamela M. Kato is the owner of P. M. Kato Consulting in Mountain View, California where she helps multinational companies, government agencies, NGOs, universities, and startups use the power of serious games for training, education, and therapy in healthcare. Before returning to Silicon Valley, Dr. Kato was Professor of Serious Games at Coventry University in the UK. Dr. Kato began her work on serious games as the co-founding President and CEO at HopeLab where she led groundbreaking work on the original Re-Mission, a widely acclaimed serious game for young people with cancer. Dr. Kato’s research focuses on combining scientific evidence, behavioral theories, and team training in soft skills to create innovative technologies for change.
Dr. Kato has broad experience conducting user research with children as young as 3 years old with Haemophila to seniors in their 80s with Chronic Kidney Disease. She uses creative approaches to gain research insights from users and integrate their needs in product design to promote the best possible combination of product quality, user satisfaction, cost effectiveness, impact, and global appeal.
Dr. Kato's games have been distributed in over 81 countries, translated into 10+ languages, evaluated in scientifically rigorous multicenter randomized clinical trials, recognized with numerous industry awards, cited as classics in academic textbooks, exhibited in art museums, and featured in the mass media.
Dr. Kato has a masters in Counseling and Consulting Psychology from Harvard University and a PhD in Psychology from Stanford University.
