The medical center’s Information Technology (IT) Department, working closely with clinical department leaders and physicians, spearheaded the conceptual development of the computerized patient record (CPR), which became known as the Gemini Project. The over arching goals were:

  1. to dramatically improve the quality of care by increasing caregivers’ connectivity and access to complete information; and
  2. to save money with more efficient operations. Once this group identified a range of strategic and tactical objectives, these goals were refined by medical center leadership.
