UTSW Medical Center is honored as a HIMSS Davies Enterprise Award recipient for its understanding that automation and data analytics is only as good as the quality of the data. Their focus on continuous improvement over the last 15 years led to the adoption of Agile methodologies combined with automated testing ensures both efficient delivery of technology solutions and high-quality data for decision-making.
UTSW’s Health System Information Resources (HSIR) team began implementing health information and technology systems as early as 1984, with early efforts for a data warehouse beginning in 2003. Over the years, the data warehouse has grown to include data from over 33 systems including clinical, operational and academic data that allows UTSW to easily access information about everything from patient satisfaction factors to detecting gaps in care across a specific patient population.
UT Southwestern is an organization driven to enhance patient safety and improve patient outcomes,” stated Jonathan French, senior director of quality and patient safety initiatives at HIMSS North America. “UT Southwestern has created an enterprise-wide culture of using health information and technology to make data-driven decisions and create a culture of safety."
