The HIMSS staff is made up of changemakers who collaborate with members to reform the global health ecosystem through the power of information and technology.

Jan Lugibihl is Associate Manager for Professional Development at HIMSS.

How long have you been at HIMSS?

It will be 8 years in September.

How do you support our mission statement?

I oversee the continuing education offerings and process for Global Conference and the conference sessions loaded into the HIMSS Learning Center. Conference attendees from around the world are invested in increasing their knowledge and maintaining their credentials by earning continuing education units. The vast array of education sessions developed by the Professional Development team and other HIMSS teams offers a way of doing this in a short period of time. My day-to-day, non-Global Conference work lets me support the program initiatives and work of my amazing co-workers on the Professional Development team as they respond to needs identified by the HIMSS global community.

How do you know your work at HIMSS makes a difference?

Every year I hear from Global Conference attendees who appreciate the care we take to provide quality education, with no commercial bias, they can use to maintain their credentials. We’ve worked to develop a nearly seamless online system for claiming continuing education for Global Conference sessions, an effort that has earned praise from users for ease of use and accuracy.

What’s one thing you wish everyone knew about the work you do at HIMSS?

I wish everyone knew just how robust our list of continuing education offerings is—14 types at last count, including new offerings added to meet the needs of the HIMSS international audience. All but a handful of the non-sponsored general education sessions earn two or more types of continuing education approval, a tribute to the care the Professional Development team puts into the process of developing sessions and the quality of the presentations created by presenters. I love knowing that what we do helps others maintain the credentials they’ve earned so they can continue to offer quality care and services.
