What does certification help you do?

Certification provides the opportunity to demonstrate commitment to professional growth and continuous learning. CPHIMS certification assisted my journey into the informatics and health information and technology role, and personally let me perform my duties with confidence and efficiency on a higher level.

What is one of the biggest challenges you’ve encountered, and how did you overcome it?

Earlier in my career, I had to participate in multiple IT projects in my organization involving clinical and digital transformation. In order to overcome this challenge, I had to learn and apply the core competencies required for health information and technology implementation, such as knowledge about the systems development lifecycle (SDLC), privacy and security, and leadership management skills. More importantly, the ability to adopt transcultural communication was essential as we are required to deal with diverse professionals within and outside of the organization.

What advice do you have for someone who is considering CAHIMS or CPHIMS certification?

Don’t hesitate to pursue your certification. Plan and start by scheduling your exam date. Spending enough time to study really makes the difference and usually depends on your gap assessments result.

Who or what inspires you?

Nurse innovators and leaders who are making a difference in the AI era.
