CMS Finalizes Regulation Offering Relief to Meaningful Use Providers for 2014
The Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services (CMS) and the Office of the National Coordinator (ONC) for Health IT issued a final rule that offers providers flexibility. The Final Rule closely follows what the agencies included in their May 20, 2014, proposed rule.


HITPC Opines on JASON Recommendations at September Meeting
Health IT Policy Committee held its monthly meeting in DC that included three updates from Federal agencies and Committee Workgroups. The Committee also received final recommendations from the JASON Task Force.


Megan Smith Named to Replace Todd Park as U.S. Chief Technology Officer
Megan Smith replaces Todd Park, who is leaving the CTO position to take on the challenge of recruiting Silicon Valley technology talent.  She will be the third Chief Technology Officer of the United States.

The Institute for e-Health Policy is Collaborating with the Senate Special Committee on Aging to hold a Panel discussion of major government, clinical, and technology experts describing how the health information technology can be employed to assist the seniors and the infirmed to better care for themselves and receive safer more responsive healthcare.


Institute for e-Health Policy Hosts Annual Technology Showcase
HIMSS Interoperability Showcase and Institute for e-Health Policy Technology Showcase will provide members of Congress, policy makers, the federal government, and many more a glimpse into a "seeing is believing" health information exchange demonstration. This event is where clinicians, technicians and key decision makers can come together and provide a first-hand experience to technologies that show interoperable clinical solutions.


House E&C Committee 21st Century Cures Initiative to hold a Hearing and a Roundtable discussion next week
House E&C Committee 21st Century Cures Initiative will hold a hearing on Tuesday on the “Regulation of Laboratory Developed Tests”. And on Wednesday, the House E&C Committee 21st Century Cures Initiative will hold a roundtable discussion on "opportunities to accelerate the discovery, development, and delivery of new cures and treatments".

NHIT Week is a collaborative forum, bringing together relevant healthcare constituents as well as members of Congress and other key decision makers.  Since 2006, HIMSS has welcomed the waning summer months with an entire week dedicated to celebrating the important role that health IT plays in improving healthcare delivery in America. This year, HIMSS is giving extra attention to the task of – "achieving value through interoperability".
