The Electronic Prior Authorization (ePA) Ecosystem: Connectivity Between Pharmacists, Providers and Health Plans

Jan 24, 2017 12:00pm - 1:30pm CST

Electronic prior authorization (ePA) creates a connection between pharmacists, providers and payers allowing them to electronically share the prior authorization (PA) request needed for a patient to receive the medication they were prescribed. This first webinar of the series will detail the process of this transaction and the current state of adoption at pharmacies and health systems, as well as availability within their dispensing and EHR system vendors. In order to ensure the fastest time to therapy, many states have implemented legislation to make the PA submission process as streamlined as possible. Types of state mandates will be discussed.

Learning Objectives:

  • Define the current state of ePA availability and adoption across pharmacies, EHR vendors and payers that represent the majority of market share
  • Differentiate between availability and adoption among industry players
  • Distinguish the relationship and methodology of ePA between the medication prescriber and pharmacist
  • Identify states that have legislation surrounding electronic submission of PA requests
