HIMSS Submits letter on NIST Cybersecurity Framework Draft

In a letter sent on April 10th, HIMSS offers a response to the National Institute of Standards and Technology (NIST) on a request for comments for its recent update to the Framework for Improving Critical Infrastructure Cybersecurity (Draft Version 1.1).

HIMSS continues to track the development of the Framework for Improving Critical Infrastructure Cybersecurity as it has since its inception and advocates for healthcare organizations to adopt and implement it in our October 2016 Cybersecurity Call to Action.  HIMSS notes that the Framework is an excellent work product resulting from a robust public-private partnership.  In addition, HIMSS supports the adoption of the Framework by healthcare organizations so that these organizations “adopt a voluntary, universal information privacy and security framework.”

In offering its comments, HIMSS reiterates its commitment to being a resource to NIST in its mission to promote U.S. innovation and industrial competitiveness by advancing measurement science, standards, and technology in ways that enhance economic security and improve our quality of life as it relates to the healthcare sector.
